Neil’s Cove

Neil’s Cove, known as the ‘lagoon’ is at the northern end of beach no.7. Having discovered it most people come back most of the days of their stay on Havelock. We certainly did, as did a number of other regulars. Yet there are 26 resorts on Havelock, and most days there were just 10-25 people on the beach at its busiest. Maybe most of the other people on the island were scuba divers! Maybe they were put off by the crocodile attack which killed a man in 2010. This crocodile was captured and now lives in a zoo.

Anyway, we were not complaining about having such an exclusive, exquisite beach. It is not a true lagoon, being partly enclosed by dead coral reefs. The coral around Havelock is mostly dead due to the rising temperature of the sea. However snorkelling is good fun, the water is very clear and here are lots of beautiful fish to see. But mostly we dipped in and out of sea, strolled up to the northern end of the beach to look at the weird rock formations, lazed in the hammock and read our books. Perfect!

  1. I guess being in such a spot you just hanker after stuffy offices, fruitless meetings and tough deadlines!

  2. The man eating croc is a lucky boy to find himself in a zoo !
It is easy to see why you kept going back there though I ain’t sure what is going on in the last photo – looks like have been to Weston Super Mare after all 🙂
I Bet the thought of what Malcolm said above has made you day – welcome to our world – and to make things worse, its bloomin cold too.
Ho Hum – see you on Elephant Beach – guess the locals weren’t sure what came after ‘7’
